National Defence Academy (NDA) 2014 Syllabus is vast and prepared in such a manner that it caters to all the candidates interested for Army, Air Force and Navy wings of NDA. The syllabus is a wide affair as it outlines the following subjects:
  • General Ability
  • Mathematics

General Ability section is further divided into two subsections:

  • General Knowledge
  • English

The syllabus of NDA in terms of subject division is narrow and very wide but looking at the coverage of the topics, it is wide as it covers the syllabus of four subjects. The syllabus is one of the most important aspects of any exam including the NDA exam also that is why it is advisable to the candidates to keep a copy of the detailed syllabus so that the preparation goes as defined and there is no brokerage in the path of preparation.

Following is the brief synopsis of NDA 2014 syllabus subject wise:

A)     Mathematics Syllabus
  • Algebra including concept of set, operation of set, venn diagram, De Morgan law, Representation of line number on line, Binary system of numbers, Arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progression etc.
  • Matrices and Determinants include types of matrices, operations on matrices, basic properties of a determinant, Adjoint and inverse of a square matrix etc.
  • Trigonometry includes Trigonometrical ratios, Inverse trigonometric functions etc.
  • Analytical geometry with two and three dimensions including rectangular Cartesian co-ordinate system, distance formula etc.
B)    General Ability has two sections of General knowledge and English section.

English Syllabus

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Jumbled Sentence
  • Fill in the blanks
  • Sentence Correction
  • Finding errors and omittions
  • Cohesion in extended text etc.
General Knowledge Syllabus

The general knowledge or general awareness section has questions from various subjects and below is the brief synopsis of general knowledge syllabus of various subjects:

Physics section:

  • Physical Properties and States of Matter, Mass, Weight, Volume, Density and Specific Gravity, Principle of Archimedes, Pressure Barometer.
  • Motion of objects, Velocity and Acceleration, Newton s Laws of Motion, Force and Momentum, Parallelogram of Forces, Stability and Equilibrium of bodies, Gravitation, elementary ideas of work, Power and Energy.
Chemistry section:

  • Physical and Chemical changes. Elements, Mixtures and Compounds, Symbols, Formulae and simple Chemical Equations, Law of Chemical Combination (excluding problems). Properties of Air and Water.
  • Preparation and Properties of Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen and Carbon dioxide, Oxidation and Reduction.
  • Acids, bases and salts.
History section:

  • A broad survey of Indian History, with emphasis on Culture and Civilization.
  • Freedom Movement in India.
  • Elementary study of Indian Constitution and Administration.
  • Elementary knowledge of Five Year Plans of India.
